My second writer spotlight of the A to Z Challenge.
There was no way I could do a popular culture / entertainment themed challenge without talking about Joss Whedon. I don’t think there is one person out there who isn’t a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan. Come on let’s all give the man a round of applause just for giving us Buffy Summers.
But wait there’s more not only has this man created some of the best TV shows I have ever seen despite some of them being short-lived, he has given us great movies including this summers blockbusters the Avengers but he has more than dabbled his fingers in other media as well – he wrote the first 25 issues of the Astonishing X-Men, a six issue stint on Runaways which he was a massive fan of and brought both Firefly, Buffy and Angel into the comics world at Dark Horse comics. Joss has tried to get many other projects off the ground including a Ripper TV show centered a Giles from Buffy. Every time I hear that Joss is behind a TV show I do a happy dance and look forward to the day when he brings me more weekly sci-fi.
The two main things I love about Joss is his writing and the way that comes across into fantastic dialogue and secondly he can write women – Echo in Dollhouse, Buffy and Kitty Pride in Astonishing X-Men.
What I give to you now is my top 5 Joss Whedon media:
5. Dollhouse
4. Runaways
3. Buffy
2. Astonishing X-Men
1. Serenity / Firefly
