Animal Collective previewed the first track from their forthcoming ninth album today on their new weekly radio program.
I’m not totally familiar with their entire back catalogue but like many other people I thought 2009’s Merriweather Post Pavillion was one of the best albums of that year.
Today’s Supernatural is their first new material for a while and it sounds amazing. While it retains some of the familiar sounds and vibes from their recent work, it also has a much noisier, urgent, almost aggressive sound – which comes from the guitars, drums, and even the vocals.
The overall sound is very dense, which is nothing new for this band. The familiar layered psychedelic electronic sounds are present, and listening to this track was a pretty intense experience which left my ears desperate for more.
I am very excited for the new album Centipede Hz which is released September 4th on Domino Records. You should be too.
