The one-word teasers have been rolling in from Marvel for a while now, they’ve now answered the latest two with Savage being for Wolverine and Amateurs being the Young Avengers. Now Superior is Spider-Man. USA Today have now confirmed that after 700 issues and 50 years Spider-Man is no longer Amazing, he is Superior.
Dan Slott will be staying on as Spider-Man’s writer and will be joined by artists Ryan Stegman and Humberto Ramos. Dan Slott has promised a change in tone to the title and a much darker character following the end of December’s issue 700; “The one thing that does not go with this Spider-Man is the term ‘Friendly neighborhood.’ Slott also confirmed details on the first story arc; “The first story arc is called ‘Hero or menace?’ I think that pretty much tells you where we’re going,” Slott told the publication. “He’s not going to be doing things the old Spider-Man way. There will be a new way of doing things.”

This is the latest in a line of titles being rebooted/relaunched under the Marvel NOW initiative which has seen the majority of Marvel titles being given brand new creative teams and first issues which has been in a similar manner to DC’s brand new 52 which saw their whole line given a complete reboot in September 2011. So far this is the most exciting news I’ve heard come out of Marvel since the Marvel NOW relaunch began.
