NYCC 2012

Following the very exciting news that Scott Snyder is going to be working on a Superman title with Jim Lee in the New Year, DC announced a new title written by Snyder and drawn by the hugely talented Sean Murphy, who is currently rinsing it with his creator-owned title Punk Rock Jesus.

The Wake is billed as a science fiction and horror tale set beneath the surface of the ocean. With Snyder on writing duties and Murphy on art, the team that produced American Vampire: Survival of the Fittest reunite for a comic that has long been gestating, according to Snyder.

Here’s what Snyder said over on DC’s blog:

“I couldn’t be more excited about The Wake!” said Snyder about this new comic book series. “This is a story Sean and I have actually been developing together for more than a year, a big, twisted, sprawling science fiction and horror epic, all of which begins with a single, terrifying discovery at the bottom of the ocean. It’s one of the most ambitious stories I’ve ever done, and there’s no one I’d rather be creating it with than Sean Murphy. Sean’s a great friend and we had a blast together on AMERICAN VAMPIRE: Survival of the Fittest; luckily, he’s also one of the industry’s brightest new stars, someone with unrivaled abilities as a world-builder—every scene he draws is so fully realized, so richly imagined, it’s hugely inspiring working with him, and I’m grateful to him for signing on to be my partner at the end of the world, here.”

With Snyder writing Batman, Swamp Thing, American Vampire, Superman and now this new title my question is – does this man ever sleep? Will he burn out? I sincerely hope not. Because for my money he is one of the best writers working in comics right now, and I’ll happily buy anything the man produces. Throw in GeeksUnleashed.Me favourite Murphy and you have a title that I am very, very excited about. I’m practically tingling over here.

  1. This is the most exciting news out of NYCC so far – Punk Rock Jesus has been one of 2012’s best miniseries, whilst Snyder is writing all which is good in mainstream comics!

    1. I know. It’s awesome. Snyder and Murphy working together is always a wonderful thing, and Snyder can do this horror type of story really well. I am definitely getting this book. Can’t wait for more big news from NYCC over the weekend!
