Cyber Force #1

Story by: Marc Silvestri & Matt Hawkins
Art By: Khoi Pham & Sunny Gho

It has been a long while since I read a good superhero comic book. Nowadays, I really only have time for fiction. This may change. Correction, this has changed.

Fellow staff writer Matt Benedict-Calico talked about this coming release and the Kickstarter campaign that funded it. It was my belief that Marc Silvestri came out with this free comic book campaign to entice people into the comic book world. All I can say to that is, he has succeeded.

Cyberforce #1 starts in media res, or in the middle of the action. We get to follow main character, Carin Taylor, back through her memories. We are reintroduced to some former Cyberforce characters as well. The art was incredible. Each panel conveyed emotion in a way only comics really can. The color was fantastic and the action was explosive. You can definitely catch the nod to steampunk stylings in some of the weaponry, and the updated style adds an intriguing depth in the panels. I personally want the 5th panel in to hang over my desk.

As for the story? Well, I’m gripped. I had forgotten how short comics were, and I cannot wait for the next release. I’ve read the digital version, but I will most certainly be stopping by my local comic book store to see if I can score a copy of the print version as well. Silvestri’s intent was to get the non-comic book reader or the long-time-ago reader into comic book stores. Well, from this non-comic book reader, I will say it was definitely a success.
