At the end of last week some very exciting news emerged for fans of hard-boiled crime fiction master Mickey Spillane. Warner Brothers announced that they have acquired the film rights to the series of noir novels which Spillane produced in the 1940’s, 50’s and beyond.

Featuring the embittered, granite hard private detective Mike Hammer, the books include the classics I, The Jury, Vengeance is Mine and One Lonely Night.
There have been many adaptations of Spillane’s books, both on the big and small screen; some have been more successful than others. With the involvement of Ken Levin, rep for the Spillane estate and the fact that Warner Brothers produced some of the most well known and critically acclaimed films noir of the past century, I am hopeful that any new films will be made with respect and love for the source material.
