Every watchlist we explore all of the solicitations and pull out a comic book each that we thoroughly recommend:

Jo – Bedlam #1

Three weeks ago we here over at GeeksUnleashed alerted you, the comic reader, to a preview of Bedlam by Nick Spencer (Thief of Thieves) and Riley Rossmo (Rebel Blood). Released this Halloween, by Image Comics, we meet Fillmore Press aka Madder Red, a “homicidal maniac and criminal overlord”, who terrorised the town of Bedlam for years, before getting better. This is what happened next. Rossmo’s art is a wonder, perfectly suited to the tone of this book and its lead character, whilst Nick Spencer’s script is yet another masterpiece. Pick up the double sized first issue this Wednesday.

Stephen – Happy #2

Happy #2 is the comic I’m most looking forward to this week. Issue #1 of this 4 issue limited series by the superb creative team of writer Grant Morrison and artist Darick Robertson, was absolutely fantastic. From the previews I have seen of issue #2 it looks as though the quality is not going to dip at all. Nick Sax is trapped in a mafia hospital with only a talking, flying, blue horse to help him escape. The writing is Morrison at his free-flowing best. The art by Robertson is richly detailed and looks gorgeous.  So check it out. You’re sure to love it.

Mark – Batgirl Annual #1

If you like Batgirl and Catwoman then you’ll love this. I’m really enjoying Gail Simone’s Batgirl run and this is one of the better “New 52” titles out there and in fact most of the Batman titles standout for me above the rest of the DC universe. I know a lot of people have moaned and groaned about Catwoman and its controversial first issue but I’m also enjoying that as well. So add an Owl from the ever popular “Night of the Owls” storyline and with Batgirl and Catwoman it looks like this could be a hit. There isn’t much to go on story wise but it looks like it’s going to be a traditional superhero fight and then team up kind of story. With last weeks Talon #1 and now this it looks like the Owls are here to stay.
