It’s that time of the week again when the Geeks Unleashed Comic Book writers get their heads together and pick out three books you should be watching out for!
Mark – Iron Man #1
Writer Kieron Gillen and artist Greg Land being you the Marvel Now take on Iron Man! The lethal techno virus Extremis has been released on the public to the highest bidder. We all know how excellent Warren Ellis’s story line was which introduced to Extremis and next years movie is due to feature Extremis. I’ve always loved the character of Iron Man although never given the character much of time so I’m looking forward to getting in on the ground floor with this one.
Stephen – Planet of the Apes: Cataclysmreaches #3
I wasn’t a huge fan of Planet of the Apes until I started reading the comic book creations of Corrina Bechko and Gabriel Hardman. The current Boom Studios miniseries Planet of the Apes: Cataclysmreaches issue #3 this week, and the events so far have got me itching to find out what happens next. The writing is brilliant, Bechko and Hardman imbue the characters with more emotion and personality than most human characters in modern comic books, and the art on this series by Damian Couceiro is simply wonderful.
Jo – Colder #1
Last week, we here at GU, brought you lucky folks a three page preview of Colder #1. Written by Paul Tobin, with artwork by Juan Ferreyra, the creative team behind Falling Skies, according to publishers Dark Horse Comics, Colder #1 is “a new horror comic in the vein of Locke & Key and Preacher”. Declan Thomas’ body temperature is dropping, the up side of which is that he never gets ill nor feels pain. He’s an ex-inmate of an insane asylum that was destroyed in a fire and has the strange ability to step inside a person’s madness and sometimes, cure it. He hopes one day to cure his own before his time runs out, because when his temperature reaches zero…it’s over. Twisted, well written, with fantastic art, Colder #1 is another fantastic addition to the horror comics genre, one you’ll want to add to your pull list at your local store.
What comics will you be picking up this week?
