The rumours that Avenged Sevenfold is in the midst of writing a new album took a step forward when their unattached single Carry On featured as a post-credits video in the recently released Call of Duty: Black Ops II. The video is a bit of a head-pickler that features a virtual incarnation of the band playing the song for the virtual audience, all the while accompanied by game characters Raul Menendez and Sergeant Frank Woods.
The virtual reality/heavy metal experiment is not a new one however, and was exploited to the full by Iron Maiden’s 1998 release Virtual XI. But this gritty video goes a little further by not only demonstrating just how far computer graphics have come from the days of Spacewar! (1962), but also providing allowing video game fans such as the band’s singer M. Shadows a way to cross the virtual divide.
