Ravi Shankar Dies aged 92

Master sitar player and buddy of The Beatles, Ravi Shankar, has died in San Diego. The Indian-born musician was a close friend of George Harrison, and had been an inspiration to artists such as Peter Gabriel, Slash and KD Lang.

Eminem to Headline Reading and Leeds Festivals

Rap royalty and music megastar, Eminem, has confirmed that he will be headlining the joint Reading and Leeds festivals nest year. Eminem, aka Mr. Marshall Bruce Mathers III is to be joined by Mercury Music Prize winners Alt-J , while alternative metal band Deftones will also perform on the Main Stage. London boy Sub Focus will top the bill on the BBC Radio 1 Dance Stage.

Musicians Help Native Americans Win Land Battle

Artists including Bette Midler, P Diddy and Sol Guy helped to fund raise and increase awareness for the Lakota tribe’s victorious Pei Sla campaign. The South Dakota-based tribe was contesting the sale of sacred land that had been illegally taken from them following the disintegration of the 1868 Laramie Treaty.

Stars Raise Money For Hurricane Sandy Fund

Musical big guns Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi and the Rolling Stones joined fellow legends Eric Clapton, Roger Waters and Alicia Keys to raise money for Hurriance Sandy. All proceeds from Madison Square Garden’s “12-12-12” went to the Robin Hood Relief Fund. Comedians Jone Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Billy Crystal also made appearances.

Moscow (Idaho)-born singer songwriter Josh Ritter has announced that his new album, The Beast in Its Tracks, will be available from March 5, 2013. The release comes just under three years after his critically acclaimed So Runs the World Away. Watch this space for a future review.

Fleetwood Mac singer, Stevie Nicks, has revealed that she’d be keen to play Glastonbury in 2013. The news coincides with the band’s 2013 reunion tour, all but confirming that they will be on the bill to play the famous Pyramid Stage.

You Can’t Silence The Boss

Following the controversial silencing of the ‘Wrecking Ball’ rocker at last year’s Hyde Park gig, Bruce Springsteen has announced he will return to London on June 15 2013… albeit at Wembley Stadium. Other venues on his UK and Ireland tour include Glasgow at Hampden Park (June 18), Coventry’s Ricoh Arena (20), Limerick’s Thomond Park (July 16), Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork (18) and Belfast’s King’s Hall (20).

It Smells Like… Paul McCartney? Ex-Beatles frontman McCartney took the reigns for the Nirvana reunion gig last night. The line-up was part of the 12-12-12 concert, but was met with a frosty reception by Kurt Cobain’s widow, Courtney Love who said she was “not amused” by the reunion.
