A Healthy Start To The Day

One of my main personal goals last year was to get another job and progress at work, this was something that I put a lot of work into. I used a lot of time outside of work, I got help from mentors, kept my PDP up to date, completely rewrote my CV, spent time raising my profile and improving my skills by working on feedback and spending time in different areas of the business.

You’ll be pleased to know I succeeded in this goal. I had other goals last year that were more sub goals – one of which was improving my health and losing weight.

My biggest enemy was energy drinks. About 15 years ago when Redbull first hit the streets I started drinking it and roughly 4 years ago I used to drink 4/5 a day which is just insane. Over the years I’ve managed to get down to one energy drink a day and now I’ve got it down to none a day.

Most work day morning my day would consist of starting of an energy drinks along with a sausage sandwich breakfast of some kind and a lot of this was due to disorganisation on my part so over the last 12 months I have been improving things and now wanted to share with you what I do instead:

The Drink:

I like to start the day to work with a drink and I find that buying a hot drink is normally a couple of quid and doesn’t reach drinking temperature until you reach your desk which defeats the point in them so another reason why I went for energy drinks.
I recently decided to make a hot drink at home and drink it on my commute to work. I’ve found this really wakes me up and gives me a good start to the day.

The Breakfast:

As for breakfast over the last 12 months I’ve begun having porridge which I find fills me up until lunch time. I’m not someone who can get by on a slice of toast or a bowl of cereal and need something a little bit more filling.

I like to have my porridge quite thick and tend to use two portions from the Quaker Oats boxes. I’ve recently started to add bananas and blueberries to this and have found that this gets me through from 8am till 1pm without needing any snacks but I really enjoy this. All in all this is a tasty, cheaper and far healthier start to the day.

I feel quite good about having sorted out my mornings and just need to continue with improving my healthier eating throughout 2015 as my main goal is to become healthier and lost three stone.

Please let me know what you’ve done to improve your diet so far this year.
